Some young people marry before they have established a good sense of identity. They hope they will be able to find themselves in their marriage. Such marriages, however, rarely work out. The partners sooner or later begin to feel hemmed in by their obligations as mates and parents. They soon complain that others are not giving them the opportunity to develop themselves. A change in mate is rarely the answer. What the individual needs is some "wisely guided insight" into the fact that one cannot expect to live intimately with another until one has become oneself.
