The Walk

You wore
a pink overcoat
as we walked the dog
down a gravel path
lined with trees
bare of leaves

it was just before
we found the split log
cabin half fallen
blending brown
into wet earth

I wanted to take a picture
of you standing there
surrounded by nature
but I had no camera

all the walks before
all the variations
of being you and me
filled the space
it felt complete

I wrote this poem
to remember
that moment with you
the feeling
of communion
in the woods
