Jake and his father each took a handful of M&M¡¯s from the candy dish on grandma's coffee table.
Jake offered to give half of them to his sister. His father offered to give his daughter 1/4 of what he grabbed.
Jake sorted his handful of the M&M¡¯s and put one third of them back in the dish because they were red and he does not like red M&M¡¯s. That would leave Jake with 12 M&M¡¯s.
